For my first ever blog I want to write about something that's been on my mind for a while and has created a lot of awkward moments for me and I'm sure I am not alone.
Here is my question: When you kiss someone on the cheek, which cheek do you kiss? Left or Right?
I always thought that like our good old Auzzie road system, there is a 'keep left' rule. However some people whether they be from different countries or different generations seem to prefer the other side of the road!
I vividly recall kissing my Grandfather hello and going for the left and he went for the right - we very awkwardly met in the middle while trying to avoid close range eye contact and I hurriedly swerved out of the way of his oncoming kiss to plant mine safely on his left cheek where it belonged.
That was not a case in isolation though. This has happened with friends, parents-in-law, work colleagues and complete strangers - I feel that there needs to be some kind of social awareness campaign that educates our good Australian citizens on the rules of this important interaction.
So the purpose of this blog is to ask that all of you reading this consider my request - when kissing someone hello, goodbye or for any other reason on the cheek; please keep to the left to avoid any unwanted and potentially scarring collisions.
If you agree with my sentiments, please pass this post on to help educate Australians about this important issue.
Kisses to the left,
Ellie Bird
